Dr Bourne attended the University of Queensland graduating in 1989 with Honours, attending postgraduate urological training in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Dr Bourne travelled to the United Kingdom where he completed a fellowship year at City Hospital in Birmingham. Following his fellowship year at The City Hospital Dr Bourne worked as a locum urological consultant in a number of UK Hospitals providing treatment and management for all urological issues including prostate cancer.
Dr Bourne also trained in the area of Brachytherapy treatment having spent time in Leeds United kingdom and Seattle USA. Having developed a special interest in the treatment and management of prostate cancer Dr Bourne was also one of the first Urologists in Queensland to establish Brachytherapy treatment for prostate cancer at Greenslopes Private Hospital and the first and currently the only one to offer this treatment at the John Flynn Private Hospital Gold Coast. Dr Bourne has trained in San Francisco in robotic assisted laproscopic radical prostatectomy. He is able to perform this procedure at John Flynn Hospital.
Dr Bourne Established his private practice in 2000 providing a comprehensive range of urological services at the John Flynn Private Hospital and the Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah District Hospital. Dr Bourne also provides education and training to the urological registrar’s at the Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah District Hospital.
Dr Bourne is a fellowship examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgery
